In the Gracie South Bay Jiu Jitsu Youth Program we focus on building future champions and leaders both on and off the mat. Using Jiu Jitsu as a learning tool we are able to Build a child’s Confidence, Focus, Self-Esteem, Motor Skills, and Self Defense. Our curriculum consists of Jiu-Jitsu fundamental techniques as well as a unique “character stripe” system

• The yellow stripe represents Discipline. The student must show self-control during class and attentiveness. The student much also have a good attitude at school and good character.

• The blue stripe represents Respect. The student must show a sense of pride and confidence in themselves. The student must respect the instructor and obey instructions. The student must also treat fellow teammates with kindness on the mat as well as other peers in their life. The easiest way to practice respect is with the golden rule: “treat others as you would want to be treated”.

• The green stripe represents Attendance. The student must attend class regularly unless other circumstances restrict their attendance. This characteristic helps students understand the importance of commitment, dedication, and the value of their word. The student should understand the value of the instruction and their commitment to learning a new martial art. At Gracie South Bay we try to discourage laziness and quitting. You don’t have to be great to start but you have to start in order to be great. The student must realize in order to get better at the techniques they must attend class and practice.

• The red stripe represents Listening. The student must follow and comprehend instruction to the best of their ability. The student must show they are listening by body language (good posture, eye contact, and acknowledgement). Students must do their best to not distract other
